$72k Per Year

After that last blog entry I was feeling pretty down. I stepped back from the computer and said, “God, this is not going very well. I need help.”

I fixed myself two egg sandwiches and got back online. The second link I clicked on Craigslist sounded interesting. I made a phone call and talked at length to the owner of the company offering the position. He made me an offer on the spot and wants me there in a week to start.

I’ll be a finance manager for an auto dealership.

This is, of course, much less than I’m used to making. But it will allow me to take care of my son. Try telling me that God’s not helping me.

Try telling me that God’s not helping me.

God didn’t help you. You read the job listings like the rest of us and found a job.

God isn’t in my life and I have no problems finding jobs…

by the way, anonymous #1, why dont’ you try it? ask God to come into your heart……He rejoices at ALL hearts that come to Him……why not leave Donny alone. I don’t know Donovan, just on his recent posts, but God doesn’t regret ANYONE being saved by the Blood of His Son.

If you have a problem with what he’s done, then leave him alone.

    Donny,

Good luck to you, but be careful on that job. Car dealers do not hire anyone with no experience to be a finance manager. Although you have lots of life/work experience to be a finance manager you need car experience and most good dealerships finance managers make more like 120k a yr and up if your at a good place. I also have never heard of a dealer hiring anyone without a face to face, unless they are recommended personally by other car people they know. Also, car dealers are notorious for no job security.

    Hey Donny,
I hope this fulfills you for now. I’m so glad you got this job! Even if it’s just a stop-gap, God is definitely with you. You wanted your doubts relieved? This is the first of, I think, many ways he’ll show you.

one last thing on here….if all of ya’ll are so tough…show yourselves….come out into the light……oh right you love the dark……..I get so sick of people trying to tear people down……look, I’m not judging anyone here….you want to take a look at my blog and slam me there, fine……I’m a pig, loser too…..I am working on a relationship with Jesus who died for your (and my) sins…..it’s the least I can do. Luke 9:53-56 says
53 They didn’t receive him, because he was traveling with his face set towards Jerusalem.

54 When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky, and destroy them, just as Elijah did?”

55 But he turned and rebuked them, “You don’t know of what kind of spirit you are.

56 For the Son of Man didn’t come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”

OK guys come at me http://godrums.blogspot.com just lay off donny

So Donny, will you and Belinda still be having sex? The two of you aren’t married but you’re still living together, so I assume you haven’t cut her off.

Or have you decided to ignore that part of being a Christian? What about what the bible says about sex before marriage? Let me guess…you’ll pick and choose the parts that you’ll follow, right?

Once again Donny, the message from your “old life” is the same- GO! Quit coming back to the boards and just leave the adult industry alone. We’re all fine with that. I promise!!

I find it fairly sad and strange that people are coming down so hard on Donny. Yes, he has turned his back on the industry that paid his bills and made him popular. So what? Has depravity so entrenched in the world of porn (maybe that is redundant) that you can’t even be happy for your fellow man who is trying to do something that he find morally right? How about the people from his “old life” step up and try to do something with a bit of honor and wish him well in his new life. Heck, maybe even look into WHY he decided to change his life. It seems like non-Christians love to say that Christians are so judgemental (and that may often be the case), but don’t be so hypocrytical: you are the ones being judgemental. And you are being judgemental for a pretty sad reason: Donny wanted something better (who can say they don’t want the same thing?).

“Or have you decided to ignore that part of being a Christian? What about what the bible says about sex before marriage? Let me guess…you’ll pick and choose the parts that you’ll follow, right?”

Do you think that when someone becomes a Christian they are magically turned into a perfect, pious person with a halo? Do you think ANY Christian is like that? YES, Donny is going to have to deal with many of the issues you bring up, everyone has to deal with those things. So if he doesn’t become perfect right away he is “picking and choosing” what he wants to follow? You clearly enjoy being a judgemental ass without actually knowing anything about what it means to be a Christian and follow God.

    absolutely awesome…

I am very happy for you.

And, unlike some other commenters, I do believe with all my heart that God is, indeed, guiding you. In fact, I am sure He’s always had his fingerprints all over you…you’re just getting around to noticing!

And what is with this God/god thing? It’s Donny’s blog…so it is sort of like being in Donny’s house, don’t ya know? I wouldn’t light of a cigarette in someone’s home without asking. I wouldn’t presume to use his fancy towels. I wouldn’t criticize his decorating choices.

Come on…lighten up! Show some manners…a little bit of respect.

    Hi, Donny,

I found your blog via an e-mail sent out by XXXchurch.com. I just wanted to encourage you today since it seems like a lot of people are trying to discourage you here. Praise God about the job! And the housing :) Keep looking for a church and believers to connect with. I know how hard it can be to find a good church with real people who will accept you for who you are (my past isn’t the prettiest pciture, that’s for sure), but that church and those people are out there. So keep looking until you find it.

I think people can be their own kind of Christian. You don’t have to believe in the Bible. Of course the vast majority of Christians say you do. But why? If God, Jesus and Salvation exist, they exist whether there’s a Bible or not. They exist whether people believe it or not.

I think your porn business is fine – as long as you’re being honest with the models and your customers and respecting them. Don’t give it up because others think it’s a “sin”. Be true to yourself.

God bless you in your new life, Donny. I too was raised as the son of a preacher-man, but found God (or rather God found ME) in the most unlikeliest of all places — Hollywood, California.

Thanks for sharing your story, and know that you will be in our prayers as you continue along in your Christian journey.

    The Lord is faithful!

    Hey Dovovan,

The words in these posts are revealing what is in the hearts of those posting.

I was so encouraged to hear where God has taken you, and I pray that He would continue to simply blow you away every time He comes through for you. He deeply loves you, Donny.

My prayers are with you and your family suring this time of transition, and I look forward to hearing what is to come!

Lots of brotherly love to you!

    Donny,
I admire your courage and your heart to follow Jesus Christ. For those of us who follow Jesus Christ we learn quickly that His love is like none other. Jesus said “I have come that you may have life, and that more abundantly.” It is my prayer that even during the difficult times in front of you, that you would experience the abundant life God wants for you. If you even need to someone to talk with please feel free to drop me a line or call.

    Donny,

Stay strong brother. Do you see the contempt of the life you are trying to leave? Look how quickly they turn on you. And anonymously at that! How cowardly. Praise God for your stand. I am reminded of the song, “Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns.

“Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I’m in
    Onto the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He’s holding out His hand

But the waves are calling out my name
    And they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
    I’ve tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. “Boy, you’ll never win!”
    “You’ll never win!”

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
The voice of truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth”

You are in good company brother. I will pray for you. Think of how you will minister using your former fame. God can use all things for His glory.

Kudos on your decision Donny. I can’t imagine what you’re going through in terms of relocating, and I understand that desire to provide for your son – family is a powerful motivator.

I’d invite you to our church…it’s pretty artsy so a lot of us have the same issues you do with the music, etc., but we’re way the hell north in Canada.

Keep the faith man. And when you can’t…that’s where grace comes in.

    Donny-

You have encouraged other humans in your decision to live a life that is pleasing to God and not to man. If you rely on Him, you will not be disappointed. He is faithful. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.” Proverbs 3:5-7.

I appreciate you. To God be the glory.
