I know you said this years ago, but i agree. I'm tired of people voting or judging who you voted for based on gay rights and abortion. It's pitiful and neither are going away.

Second, I don't think Jesus would have hated anything other than the hypocrisy that is going on in the world and in this country all in his name. People need to be better educated on abortion...taught that it is killing something, and if republicans wanted to do something about it...well Bush was in there for a good few years...and it's STILL an issue and he didn't do anything about it.

Roe v. Wade took the abortion decision from the States and made it a federal issue with the premise that outlawing abortion was a violation of our constitutional right to privacy. The decision was built on a fairly weak foundation, and it should not be that difficult to at least envision how it could one day be overturned. Then, it will again be left up to the individual States. Abortion would not immediately become illegal as many people believe it would.

JBR

I agree with the parties thing, and I will never vote a straight ticket.

That being said, I have NEVER missed an election (I'm just 22). Quote from "Jeff":

"Nice post. I've actually decided to stop voting from now on because of stuff like you just mentioned."

That is a terrible veiwpoint. By not going to vote, you are supporting the candidates you most disagree with. Donny isn't advocating not voting, he's advocating thinking about who to vote for. Voting is very important, and I would question your discernment if you think God doesn't want you to vote.

(I agree with you that it is an excelent post, thanks Donny)

Hi Donny,
I hope you don't mind me copy/pasting something, but I received this in my email today from the Susan B. Anthony list
www.sba-list.org
and thought of your post. I am one that mainly votes Republican because of the abortion issue, so your post did make me think. I still do feel that voting for candidates that proclaim a pro-life stance is important, because they are not likely to stand in the way of pro-life legislation, which could at least limit abortions. Also, I am praying that Roe v. Wade be overturned, and I won't give up hope that one day it will be.

My copy/paste follows:

"Rumors are flying around Washington that soon after the election a Supreme Court Justice will announce retirement because of health.

This very week, the Supreme Court will hear the Partial-Birth Abortion case.

You remember, the Partial-Birth Abortion ban was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush in 2003. It was immediately enjoined by pro-abortion forces, so it has never gone into effect.

That will be the fate of every piece of pro-life legislation until there is one more constitutionalist vote on the Supreme Court.

You can help change the makeup of the Supreme Court.

Your vote can make a real difference in the make-up of Congress. Every Member of Congress in the country is up for election tomorrow, and one-third of the U. S. Senate as well.

This year more than most, every vote matters. Voting does not end abortion in this country, but it does put people in office who won’t be an obstacle to this goal.

President Bush was able to appoint two new constitutionalist Justices since 2004 because pro-lifers were the majority in Congress. Just as in 2004, the Supreme Court is at stake again. The control of the Senate up for grabs again.

Give President Bush a Senate that will confirm a pro-life justice to the Supreme Court! Give next year’s 110th Congress the opportunity to pass pro-life legislation like the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, and the Child Custody Protection Act.

Whoever gets the most votes, wins. Make sure the pro-life candidates on your ballot get the most votes."
___________

I definitely don't claim to be any kind of expert on politics, but I sure do feel strongly about the abortion issue. The ACLJ is another organization that fights for the unborn in the political realm--they're a good one to get information from: www.aclj.org
I totally support the work they do--check them out if you're interested!

Tracy

Donny,

I have voted absentee since 1972. I highly recommend it. Having the freedom to relax, take your time, and review the candidates and issues while voting makes the experience pleasurable.

Another consideration is the germs that one avoids by eschewing the polling places.

- David

I'm with you, Donny. Voting yes/no for a candidate based solely on their position on abortion is, well... silly.
