Have you ever wondered what website owners know about you? Let me show you a bit of what I know about my visitors. If you’ve been reading awhile you may have heard me mention how wrapped up I get in statistics for this blog. Here are a few things I like to look at. What countries do visitors to DonnysRamblings.com come from?

What can I see about any one particular visitor?

I can tell what city you live in, what your IP address is, who you use to provide your internet service, how many miles you live from me, your longitude and latitude, what operating system you use, what web browser you use, how long you stayed on my website, how many pages you viewed, and several other tidbits of information. Scary? Every website you visit can see the same thing. Take a look at this screen capture I just took from someone visiting my site right at the moment I began writing this entry:

I am also told how many visitors have been to my site, how many people are on it RIGHT NOW at any given moment, how each person got to it (example: clicked through from another site, found it in a search engine, etc), if they arrived via a search engine I can see what words they searched for to get to it, what links were clicked on, and so many other stats it would blow your mind.

I love analyzing this information. Why? Mostly because I’m a geek and it entertains me to do so.

Speaking of search terms… you’d be amused (or perhaps disgusted) by some of the things people search for that ends up sending them to this site. Maybe I’ll share that sometime.
