Porn Is Harmless, Right? (UPDATED – READ AGAIN)

    Donny…it’s stories like this that sometimes bring up attacks of shame upon myself. I shudder to think that at one point I was the person causing others to sin and ruin their lives. I can’t read Matthew 18:6 without praising God for His forgiveness to someone who probably contributed to the decline of life for dozens…probably hundreds…of young women.

    I really wish I could do more to help these women break free. In fact, my passion to help them is more intense then my passion was to drive them into their horrible situations.

    God bless you, Donny. You are a walking example of how Christ can transform lives.

    Well porn can lead people to kill themselves just like any other stupid thing we do…. are we supposed to feel sorry for her because something from her past makes her feel like dying? Shit like that happens to me all the time, do I whine about it? No. People will do what people will do, kudos for trying to kill the porn industry or whatever but there are other evils out there that are right on its heels… believe me I have done some avocating and gave up because my cause was too big to overcome the monster I was up against.

    I recognise the shame and guilt. At the same time, realizing that is the key to transformation. Really picturing the lives of the boys and girls involved in this industry can give rise to lots of compassion, and break the chain of objectifying. Can be a building stone n your motivation to refrain from giving in to the temptation, and instead turn your attention to yourself and the feelings you are trying to escape.

    The dalai lama has written wonderfull stuff on compassion, has helped me a lot as it is so profound yet also so practical.

    God bless you all, may the flower of good grow in your heart.

    Tough issue to respond to. I’ve worked with a number of men who struggle with this sin of pornography and the grip it has on their lives. Some to the point of wanting to die to end the battle. I know some who have overcome and and did so by the spirit’s work in them. I could use more info on the issue to help me to pray and work with these men more effectively. Closet sins like this are so hard to break, but the Father never gives up and will win if we keep looking to his and seek help from trained counselors and pastors.
