Former Local Porn Producer Finds God

The headline on the front of the Chico News & Review reads:
Not-So-Naked Ambition: Former Local Porn Producer Finds God

Donny in the Chico News & Review

The inside of the paper tells the story:
Donny in the Chico News & Review

Click here to read it online. If you’re local, the story was printed this past Thursday (August 2, 2007). Pick up a copy and let me know what you think.

PS – If you read the story and have questions about that “seminary” part: yes, it’s true… I’m in the process of enrolling in Seminary. Lots of paperwork, I tell ya! In a few years, if all goes as planned, I’ll actually be “Pastor Donny”. From Porn Producer to Pastor? Weird, eh? Wendy doesn’t like the sound of it, for some reason. It’s been a “done deal” for quite awhile now, I just haven’t blogged about it here yet (XXXChurch has on their blog and on their MySpace page). It’s on the list of things to tell ya.

My Pastor, Jim Fleming, is quite possibly the man I respect the most in the world. I’ve given up the idea of moving forward in my profession because of this man. When hearing him talk, even in day-to-day stuff, I very much get the feeling that sitting under his instruction is very similar to what it was to sit under Paul. But he is leading a church that is very much driven by the congregation. The people who attend do the majority of the ministry are there because they want to serve, because God is important enough to sacrifice personal comfort and time.

I had a friend, my best friend in college before something I did to screw it up, whose goal was to go to a Christian college, then seminary straight into being a Pastor. The way he approached ministry was that it HAD to be led by someone licensed in ministry. Lay-people were great, but they couldn’t veer outside of the pastor-led ministries.

I hope, I pray, that you’re going into seminary to be more like the former.

One question I have, though….if you’re trying to repair things with Wendy, why is this happening without you knowing what her reason is for not liking the sound of it? I wouldn’t do something without knowing exactly why my wife didn’t like it. I’m not saying that it would change my decision, but I’d at least understand her objections completely.

    Just food for thought.

Of all the outfits I have ever worn…..The pic that gets published in a newspaper is of my least favorite one. :(

Oh well……Save a copy of that paper for me. Ugly outfit or not….It’s not every day you see pictures of us partying at the Playboy mansion published in the paper. :)

I’ll save a copy or two for ya, Aaron.

By the way, I like that shirt! And, as you said, we were at the Playboy Mansion… I’m thinking it fits perfectly with the environment in which it was worn!

    Jeff,

Wendy’s not really entirely sure herself why she doesn’t like that idea. I have some theories, but they’re just that: theories.

As for my reasons…. I really want to just learn more. Study more. Read more. Write more. Talk to like-minded people more. My dad was a Pastor, and to be honest, I really don’t ever want to Pastor a church. I don’t mind travelling and speaking to churches (plural) but I’d never want to Pastor one.

Jered – that’s a Cappuccino, my friend. Ne’er would I drink a venti regular coffee. Hee Hee. :)

You answered my unsaid questions as well as anyone could.

I absolutely understand wanting to learn more. You mentioned it early on in your walk, the last part of 2006, about how Paul separated himself for…six years, I think? And I think it’s awesome, making that concerted an effort to know God’s Word.

Sorry about jumping to conclusions on Wendy. Seems like that happens more on the interweb, huh?

Never drink a venti regluar coffee? Donny…

    Stuart,

    I know… I know…

I’m a fan of the more “foo foo” drinks. :(

Bah….It’s the ugliest outfit I have ever owned. The only thing that makes that pic look good is Kristen on my arm.

Since you like the outfit, I’ll send it to you. That was the only time I wore it and it’s hanging in my closet never to be worn again. Come down to LA and I’ll have my guy measure you up and alter it for you.

Always good to read how God brings people from the darkness and into His marvelous light. XXXchurch.com are a great band of brothers for helping folks in the porn industry.

    Be blessed Donny.
